INFATUATION - KEHINDE LAMILISA (K. L. O. T.)

Sometimes,  when days unfold like preaching flowers, the sun peeps and then love making begins.

Time tells the difference between flames and fire. Time tells how strong the love for poetry is.  And this feeling comes true with the GOPOETHICK 2 that is dated for July, 15.

Today,  Lamilisa Kehinde (K. L. O. T.) has a poem that tells a dying story of love and dead feelings. This happened to my countlessly too,  and I am sure to find you somewhere in between this story.

INFATUATION

I don't know what this is,
It feels like a rumble in my stomach,
Like life would end if I do not talk to you,
How smooth does the curves in your thighs come,
What secret does your lips hold in kisses?

I called it love,
It held me numbed conversations.
You built an empire in my mind
With pictures hanging like scattered cobwebs.

I saw it on your face,
You looked into my eyes,
You paused, it was like forever,
Your friends knew something was wrong,
It was kept within you just as me,
I knew it was mutual.

I blame it on ego;
Walking past each other with full admiration,
I said 'hello' as loud as a whisper,
You replied 'hello' in a voice hiding in caves,
Social-inattention sets in,
Pride or ego. And then...it died.

#GoPoethick2016: A New Sermon by Chika Jones

As we dine on hopes, and wine on wishes. As we paint beautiful images of #GoPoethick, and leave you to anticipate this great event, enjoy this poem by Chika Jones titled "A New Sermon''.
Chika Jones is an award winning poet and Engineer.

A NEW SERMON

“You are a woman,
Forty three years old,
Yet you are not married,
What kind of God do you serve?

So I opened those words,
and found a woman,
gang-raped by men, still beaten for adultery in Saudi,
her humiliation coming full circle,
and in the middle of that circle I found,
laws aimed at reducing women to something less,
and when I read those laws,
I found men born of women,
unable to stand the sight of their mothers and sisters
free,
Strong and equal,
and when I opened up those men,
I found me,
Seated in the back of the bus,
unable to stand up and say to the preacher:

” A woman not being married, is not a sign of failure”
“Women deserve everything men are given”
“A woman is not less than a man”.

#GOPOETHICK2016: POETRY: A VOICE FROM THE WATERS

Sometimes, what holds our strength is the muscles to move on. Those times,  tendons and cartilages fail.  They become feeble like quick sands.  Those times,  words,  just words,  do the magic.

It takes us from that situation like the tides of an ocean to a mountain or climax of pleasure.

Too many do not know that words calm the muscles. So GoPoethick cares about your mental well-being. We care about societal health too.  We would wash you off your situations like water, in the ambience of soft music,  poetry,  drama,  and other side attractions.

It's #July15.

However, enjoy...

A VOICE FROM THE WATERS

mother,  seeing you again,
is seeing a ghost in the skin of men,
you are a shovel that dig bones of memories
but I am not a dog that crave for bones,
I am man. I am man. I am man.

dying is waking in another city
i hear about tourism in heaven
and hell and the subway that leads no where
so I sit by the shore dreaming about what happens
when the world drops dead at my feet;
when seas paddle a broken boat
should I run after tides or just sit and wait for stars
to become gazers, onlookers,  pedestrians
caught by my sheer innocence?

mother, you didn't teach me how to catch breath,
when you left I became nose in water,
air is life but their is life in dying,
there is death in a life that does not know how to walk,
mother, you didn't teach me to count my fingers
you didn't tell me the names of demons,
you didn't tell me the secret of sons and the myths of sun
what you told me to do was to live
so I'm living in this water
till I'm floating like a carcass.

ANTICIPATING GOPOETHICK?

The thing with waiting is a fishing line, something you throw down a river. How you hope for something that you do not put is stupid. But in the end,  when you catch a fish,  your house shall feast.

Same way we have thrown hopes stupidly on the shoulders of a numbed world. Same way all faculties are on their toes to bring a fashioned poetry event into the ancient city of Ile-Ife.

In case you do not know,  the GoPoethick team is bent on redefining Poetry events.

Watch this space for poetry and a conglomeration of words to form an atom of fire. We shall spark the world from the Pit Thethre.

Watch out for poetry and more but before then,  enjoy this short poem:

Voices

dark rooms are maps
a window that leads us
in and out a metropolis
of rivers, of seas, of voices
gushing in the head like
the stride of seven giants

lit rooms are coffins
they are doors that
stay shut to our feelings
the sun does not care who wants it
the moon invades the privacy of darkness
so we hear crickets murmur in shrills

you and i
are two worlds apart
but our voices are
rivers meeting streams
